A good heartless man

Bukowski loved his cat.
But Bukowski never said I love you.
When he realised that his end was near, and Lady Death was knocking on his door, maybe he said I love you, for the first time in his life.
Maybe he wrote a letter to one of his lovers or one old prostitute. Maybe in the P.S she read: I love you, can't you see? And maybe she cried, as well as him...

The laughing heart(One of the poems of the collection entitled: Betting on the Muse by Charles Bukowsky, 1996)

"your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you."

Charles Bukowski

When two geniues find each other
